Dance Styles:

East Coast Swing is a lively, energetic partner dance, characterized by a bouncy rhythm, a basic 6-count step pattern, and a variety of turns and spins, often performed to big band, rockabilly, or contemporary swing music; it's known for its playful style and is considered a beginner-friendly dance due to its simple structure, with key moves including "triple steps" and "rock steps" that create a distinct bounce and hip action. 

 Shag South Carolina’s official state dance since 1984, the “Shag” is southern swing tempered by the influences of jazz, blues, and gospel music.

 Salsa  is a lively Latin American dance that combines fast and slow movements, energetic footwork, and hip movements. It's usually danced with a partner to salsa music, which is a fusion of rock, jazz,

 and Latin rhythms. 

 Cha Cha  is a lively, Latin ballroom dance with a syncopated beat, quick movements, and compact steps. It's known for its hip and pelvic movements, and is often danced to upbeat Latin music. 

 Rumba  is a ballroom dance and musical genre that originated in Cuba. It's characterized by a slow, sensual rhythm, hip movements, and a basic step-close-step pattern. 

 Merengue  is a lively, energetic dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It's characterized by its simple steps, rhythmic hip movements, and fast-paced music. 

 Bolero  is a slow, romantic dance that combines elements of the tango, waltz, and rumba. It's characterized by smooth movements, dramatic arm poses, and a close connection between partners. 

Nightclub Two Step  is a partnered social dance characterized by a smooth, relaxed style with a basic footwork pattern, often danced to slow ballads with a moderate tempo, featuring a gentle rock step and side-cross-side movements, typically with a casual hold where partners maintain close connection but without tight body contact.

 Samba  is a lively, energetic Brazilian dance with syncopated rhythms and rolling hip movements. It can be danced solo or with a partner. 

 Foxtrot  is a ballroom dance that involves a combination of slow and quick steps, and is characterized by long, flowing movements. The dance is often performed to big band music. 

 Waltz is a dance in which two dancers move in triple time as they turn together in circles, and it's also the name of music that's written for that sort of dance. If you aspire to be a competitive ballroom dancer, you'll need to master the waltz.

American Tango  is a style of ballroom dance that evolved from the Argentine Tango, characterized by dramatic movements, sharp head snaps, a theatrical flair, and a close connection between partners, often incorporating open body positions and more pronounced stylized movements compared to the traditional Argentine Tango, making it distinct within the ballroom dance scene; it is known for its passionate and expressive nature with a focus on performance quality.
